6-26-2020 Change to Previous Directive regarding Maryland Conventions

6/26/2020

Earlier this month a directive was issued by the Maryland Health Department indicating “convention events may resume operations at 50% of the facility’s Maximum Occupancy as defined in Executive Order No. 20-06-10-01 as of 5:00 P.M. on June 19, 2020”.  An Amended Directive and Order Regarding Community, Recreational, Leisure, Cultural and Sporting Gatherings and Events has since been posted on the Maryland Back to Business website that states “Convention events are prohibited until further notice.”

We are seeking clarification from the state regarding the definition of “convention events” as well as how hotels should proceed with hosting groups in meeting rooms, banquets, conference centers, etc.  As always, the lifting of state restrictions remains subject to approval by each local jurisdiction.
