MHLA Hosts Successful 2026 "Stars of the Industry" Awards
Linthicum, Md. (April 24, 2026) – The Maryland Hotel Lodging Association (MHLA) marked a major milestone on April 24, 2026, with its 36th annual “Stars of the Industry” Awards Luncheon, an energetic, high-spirited celebration that filled the BWI Airport Marriott with excitement. More than 550 attendees packed the room, creating a vibrant atmosphere as 265 exceptional lodging employees from MHLA member properties were honored for their dedication and outstanding service.
The program opened with remarks from MHLA Chair Donnie Sutton, followed by MHLA President & CEO Amy Rohrer, setting the tone for an afternoon focused on recognition and pride.
“The Stars of the Industry Awards remind us that hospitality is, at its heart, a people‑driven business,” Rohrer said. “Today, we are proud to celebrate the dedication, professionalism, and heart of the employees who consistently go above and beyond for Maryland’s guests. Their commitment not only elevates our hotels—it helps drive billions in visitor spending and tax revenue that strengthen communities across Maryland and sustain our tourism industry.”
MHLA Stars Committee Chair Patrick Miner and Vice Chair Len Goodman followed, acknowledging the strong support of event sponsors. The program also featured remarks from Jim Mumm, CEO of presenting sponsor Sunlight Energy Group, who emphasized the importance of celebrating excellence within the hospitality community.
Chris Riehl, owner of Rent-A-Tour, Baltimore tour guide, podcaster, and entertainer, returned for a second consecutive year as emcee of the “Stars of the Industry” Awards winners’ ceremony.
Leading up to the celebration, MHLA member hotels were invited to submit one outstanding front-line employee or manager across eight categories: Back of House, Culinary & Kitchen, Food & Beverage, Front Office & Guest Services, Housekeeping, Community Service, Events & Sales, and Management. Each property winner was honored at the event, with category groups taking part in a celebratory “Walk of Fame” across the stage, accompanied by high energy music and enthusiastic cheers from their peers and industry supporters.
Every winner received a lapel pin and certificate, while their respective properties were presented with a plaque engraved with the names of their 2026 winners. Click here to view photos from the event.
